Sweet Basil Catering was founded in 2004 by Amy Aversa whose passion for cooking started at an early age.  Her parents owned a cooking school where well-known chefs came to teach their craft.   After graduating from Smith College with a bachelor's degree in comparative literature, Amy worked in the fashion industry before returning to her culinary roots.   She then attended the Institute of Culinary Education, where she graduated with honors. Amy continued her culinary education as an apprentice at Mario Batali’s Italian Wine Merchants private events dining room as well as some of New York city's top restaurants.

Prior to founding Sweet Basil Catering, Amy cofounded Fun With Wine, a wine and food events company which has produced hundreds of events for clients over the past ten years including financial institutions, media companies, design firms, and universities.
